CITY LIGHTS

By Thursday, December 04, 2014

Ljubljana. The capital of Slovenia. A true winter wonderland.

On December the 3rd the lights has been turned on all around the city. Suddenly the town begins to wake up at an unusual hour, right after the sun sets down the horizon and starts sparkling at every corner, becoming brighter and brighter every second passing.

Plenty of Slovenians and foreign tourists gather and fill the city purposely to see the lights in the capital and to cheer together in front of a nice glass of hot mulled wine to fight the cold. Together with its true festive atmosphere with lovely winter scenery of snow covered willow trees lining Ljubljanica riverbank and its wonderful Christmas lights, the downtown turns into a beautiful winter scenery.

The historic city centre is very compact allowing you to explore it by walk. The Christmas Market along the Ljubljanica river boasts a tall fir Christmas tree and a range of vendors selling authentic crafts. Scents of the winter delights like roasted chestnut and festive pastries fill the air.

Ljubljana has a very lively atmosphere with a choice of nice bars and clubs, romantic cafes and riverside restaurants, and an active and varied cultural life ensuring a wonderful and exciting Christmas stay for everyone.

The RooMXMatez team went to explore it to bring you a stylish sight of this beautiful city and to share with you its mesmerizing lights and its astonishing Christmas atmosphere capturing it by the wonderful Robert Ribič.

I have always thought of Christmas time, when it has come round, as a good time; a kind, forgiving, charitable time; the only time I know of, in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely, and to think of people below them as if they really were fellow passengers to the grave, and not another race of creatures bound on other journeys.
