"I DON'T GIVE A DAMN", "PRETTY WOMAN"!

By Friday, September 18, 2015

The last few years have been a whirlwind of success for Slovenia’s fast-rising global house / tech-house star DJ and producer, Mike Vale. He is not just another big-shot-producer-turned-DJ, rather one of a rare new-breed of artists that excel in both disciplines.

«The first major break point in my career was certainly the success of the song Pretty Woman, which I released at Great Stuff Label. This song kind of started my development as an artist and then put me on the map of electronic music scene. With this song, I started getting tremendous support from big names in the industry, such as Carl Cox, Marco Carola, Pete Tong, Pleasurekraft, Mark Knight, etc.», said Mike Vale in the short interview we had the pleasure to conduce with him.

2011 was undoubtedly a great year for Mike Vale, and his talent was further recognised when he was endorsed as a highly rated, emerging talent by Beatport, who included him in the Top 3 hottest tech-house artists in the industry.

No matter what, the crowd is still my biggest challenge, «as there is always a different audience at every festival or a club, with a different vibe and with music you have to give people the right energy at the right moment. I don't play commercial music (EDM), where it is generally considered that the DJs have in advance prepared hour sets with Beatport Top 20 songs. I don't see any charm, spontaneity or creativity  in that. Personally, I prefer to play at least 2 hours and more, since with that you can take people away in your own way and at the same time educate them about music, because I like to play music, that people mostly don't know yet and I never play the same set twice. The same applies for my own production. I enjoy sitting in my studio, the complexity of the process and the reward, that a quality produced product brings. If the audience is happy because of my music, then my mission is fulfilled.».

Even before the dust had settled around the success of “Pretty Woman”, Mike Vale and Great Stuff embarked on a new venture in March 2012 - a remix of Pleasurekraft “Anubis” which hit the Beatport Top 10 and got massive support from all the big names from the house, tech-house and techno scene. Meanwhile, Mike Vale’s immense remix talents were packing dancefloors with Do Santos “2 Coffee” (303lovers) and Alex Kenji “Not That Kind Of Girl” (Hotfingers) - a No.3 Beatport Tech House Chart hit. To top that, Mike’s excellent remix of Prok & Fitch “Symphony” on Roger Sanchez’s renowned Stealth Records, hit No.1 on the Beatport House Chart and stayed there for two weeks - a phenomenal achievement for a remix, that subsequently led to Beatport awarding it “Best Of Miami 2013” status. Roger further backed his new found star by including Mike’s remix on his “Release Yourself” compilation in November.

Furthermore, Mike says that «For each piece individually I decide promptly. I have been a DJ for 15 years and I have always had some kind of my own mixer in my head, with which I hear in advance what would sound good with currently played song and which could follow. Throughout the set I also follow the energy on the dance floor and so I give people a part of myself or what it is they came for.».

2013 was a very significant year for this amazing DJ and producer. The ever-growing demand for Mike Vale’s deck skills saw him play in many countries around the world, including Canada, USA, UK, Holland, Ibiza, India, Japan, Korea, Finland, and all over Eastern Europe. As the mighty Beatport suggested at the start of the year, Mike Vale was definitely the one to watch in 2013, as his huge singles and remixes further raised his profile with support from Carl Cox, Pete Tong, Roger Sanchez, Umek (Mike is his favourite producer), Mark Knight, Pleasurekraft, Steve Angello, and many more of the world’s top DJs. 2013 also saw Mike Vale has launched his continuing residency at Slovenia’s finest and most glamorous club – Cirkus.

«I was very excited about the opening of the new season of club Cirkus and when I found out the club is sold out completely for the night, I was very happy, but at the same time I was aware of my responsibility to all the people that once again showed me their support. I can say that for me this was one of the best nights in club Cirkus and I am pleased that a part of it was also a well recognized brand Diesel, which I am an ambassador of», continues Vale.

Mike Vale’s feet barely touched the ground in 2014, his top quality productions and amazing DJ sets have seen Slovenia’s new international star continue to rise to the top. He had the packed to capacity Terrace @ Space, Ibiza going crazy to his tunes at Carl Cox’s Music Is Revolution, and topped the Beatport House Chart with “Hard Times” (featuring Chris The Voice) on Spinnin’ Records. The video for this huge track (recorded in collaboration with his close friend Umek) had over one million YouTube views before it was released! One of THE huge tunes of 2014 was Mike Vale’s remix (with Umek) of the classic Mason “Exceeder” (Armada) which hit number one on Beatport’s Overall and Tech House Chart. Mike then rounded off the year with his long-awaited, super-hot track “Can’t Fight The Feeling”, on Italy’s cool Hotfingers label.

When he hasn’t been criss-crossing the globe, impressing club crowds everywhere, Mike’s residency at Cirkus (Slovenia) has been going from strength to strength. The ever-growing queues of eager clubbers locked out as the club squeezes in capacity crowds for his every visit, is the mark of a DJ whose reputation as one of the rising superstars of the scene is increasing all the time.  As a producer, Mike has already built a reputation for creating outstanding releases, consistently topping the Beatport charts with huge club anthems such as: “Pretty Woman”, “Don’t Give A Damn”, “Say My Name”, “Elements”, “Revelation”, “All I Want” and a list of remixes that is almost endless. But, the exciting thing is that there’s so much more to come!
